Name Suffixes Explained
When making a Father Name, you have several options. The first and easiest is replacing the masculine suffix in the father's name with -ion, but that isn't your only choice. You can simply change the name suffix into a different one. Say you have a fellow living under a willow tree named Tathardir - Willow Man (tathar+dîr). His son's Father Name could be Tatharion or Tatharon. Note that in Tathardir's son's list of possible names I didn't include the suffixes referring to males older than childhood. Since the Father Name is given when he is still a baby, suffixes like "Bridegroom" aren't appropriate.
- -on
- "Male." It simply makes a word a masculine noun.
- iôn/-ion
- "Son," "son of..." and "boy." It also can be used to explain his origin, like "of."
- der
- "Bridegroom," used in names given when a man is likely to be wed.
- dîr
- "Man," used in names given when he is an adult.
- benn
- "Man, Husband," used in names given when he is a married man, or in a Lore Name given by his wife.
- tôr
- "Brother," best used in Lore Names given amoung close friends and siblings.
- hawn
- "Brother," best used in Lore Names given amoung close friends and siblings.
- hanar
- "Brother," best used in Lore Names given amoung close friends and siblings.
